Phishing/Pharming
Two forms of social engineering (techniques used to trick you into revealing personal information and passwords to scammers).
In phishing, the scammer sends out legitimate-looking e-mails, appearing to come from popular Web sites, requesting urgent verification of data.
In pharming, malware is installed on a personal computer or server, misdirecting users to fraudulent Web sites without their knowledge or consent. Larger numbers of computer users can be victimized all at once because it is not necessary to target individuals as with e-mail.
See Botnet.
