Peer-to-Peer (P2P)

A computer network where every computer has the same capabilities, can initiate communications, and can share files and peripherals with all other computers on the network (if given access privileges).

File exchange can occur directly among computers or through a mediating server. This contrasts with the client/server model and the master/slave model.

Napster and Gnutella are examples of peer-to-peer software which make it easy to join a peer-to-peer network. Keep in mind that peer-to-peer file sharing can sometimes violate copyright law.
