IP Address (Internet Protocol Number)
A unique number consisting of four parts separated by dots.
Every computer on the Web has a unique IP address. When you enter a Web address in your browser (such as www.amazon.com) it is translated into an IP address (such as 165.111.241.2) by a domain name server.
Then, a connection is made to the Web server with that IP number, which is hosting the Web site you want to view and it returns the Web pages you have requested.
