Internet, Web, World Wide Web

The vast collection of interconnected networks that all use the TCP/IP protocols and that evolved from the earlier ARPANET (originally a network for academics and government use during the late 60’s and early 70’s).

The backbone of the internet today is provided by equipment supplied by commercial companies such as MCI and AT&T.

The development of the modern desktop computer, high-speed modem, HTML, and browser helped make the Internet available to everyone.

The internet (lower case i) is any group of computers connected to each other on a network without TCP/IP protocols.

An intranet is a private network inside a company or organization that is only for internal use, and is generally out of reach of search engines and is therefore part of the Deep Web. An intranet may or may not be accessible from the Internet.

See LAN, WAN.
