Domain Name, Domain Address
The initial part of a Web address or URL, (as in www.amazon.com) which gives you the server address of who published a Web page.
A domain name is translated into a numeric IP address unique to the host computer by standardized tables which are maintained on computers called Domain Name Servers.
When you type a URL in your browser, the browser consults the table on the domain name server to find the IP address to connect to, then the host server is accessed, and it returns the requested Web pages to you.
See Subdomain.
