Client/Server

The relationship between two computers where one computer (the client) normally requests data from another computer (the server).

The client/server model is common to most networks in the business world and to users accessing the Web from home.

Sometimes the server downloads software to the client automatically without being requested, as with security patches and system updates.

See Peer-to-Peer; Master/Slave.
