Back-End
A database or data warehouse which receives data from the front-end (a client computer, interface, or a Web site) and stores and archives data until requested.
This is the data model used in e-commerce and most larger businesses. In more general business terms, the front-end can be a retail store and the back-end the warehouse and shipping center.
